What Exactly Happens in Therapy?

I will help you identify the problems on which you would like to work, and we will develop a treatment plan. We will talk about your progress, and sometimes I will suggest exercises or alternative behaviors. Sometimes I give people “homework.” In any case, I am committed to providing you with a safe, comfortable environment in which you can explore and grow. I treat all my clients with respect and dignity. My therapeutic practice focuses on cognitive and behavioral change. Together we will develop an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve a better life.

How is Therapy Going to Make Me Feel?

Most people feel a wide range of emotions during therapy. Sometimes the very feelings that caused you to seek therapy in the first place will intensify. Other times you may feel nothing at all, and question if the process is working for you. Both of these are normal, and can even be seen as signs of progress. I encourage you to discuss any concerns you have here with me during treatment. It can really help improve the effectiveness of the therapy if you give me feedback.

How Long Will I Have to See a Therapist?

The total number of sessions that are needed can vary widely from one client to the next. Some people continue therapy for years, and other people for a few months. We can discuss what your expectations are, and I will work within whatever constraints you may have as to the total number of sessions.

Do You Offer Virtual Appointments?

Yes. I offer in-person sessions in my office in Royal Oak, or via telehealth. People choose to come in person or meet virtually based on any number of reasons. A good internet connection and a private location is essential for telehealth, so I will ask that you please make sure you have these.

What Does Therapy Cost?

The cost of therapy will depend on your insurance. I am an in-network provider for many different insurance companies, and if we bill your insurance, the cost is determined by your specific insurance plan. I can help you understand your insurance benefits in most cases, but if you have questions, it’s best to contact your insurance company and ask them directly what your share of the cost would be.
